Walter Pelletier, Artist & Teacher
As an artist and teacher, an important aspect of the curriculum at George Washington Academy involves allowing students to have a hands-on experience in almost every facet of the creative process. Part of my teaching style is to understand my students' unique needs, taking the time to know each student as they learn the art process. I also strive to help students discover a deeper level of artistic thought, and support them as they apply it to their own artwork, regardless of their level of ability. I believe that Art is a basic necessity to be included in the education of all children. I am intent on passing on my understanding of the feelings and focus of well known artists, their art, and their love of creating Art. Simply put, teaching art brings me great joy.
I have been teaching Art for over sixteen years now. I am a 1999 graduate of Park University in Parkville, Missouri, where I majored in Art Education with a K-12 certification. I have also attended Summer Art Educator Workshops at the Kansas City Art Institute in Kansas City, Missouri from 2000 through 2005. I have worked as a Freelance artist most of my life, and I have used this experience as a testament to students of the real world application of art as a career. I am a member of the National Art Education Association, Humane Society of the United States, and Surfrider Foundation.
I am originally from Jacksonville, North Carolina, but have lived in San Francisco, California as a young boy, and have lived everywhere(almost) in between since then. This includes Kansas City, Missouri, and Las Vegas, Nevada, and Winslow/Flagstaff, Arizona. I have been married to my lovely wife Linda ( 25 years), and have two sons. My son Dustyn lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, and plays lead-guitar in his band ' Take the Lead', and my other son Brandon, works and lives in Cedar City, Utah.
I have two great dogs that I love!! Pepper (Border Collie), and Dude (Brittany Spaniel). I have been an avid Surfer for over 40 years, and I Ride my Motorcycle every chance I can. I know it is hard to believe, but I still Skateboard (as long as my dog Dude will drag me around). I also enjoy fishing, and love anything art related.
